Title: When We Get There
Rating: PG
Words: 100
He lies awake among the what-nows. His leg throbs, a familiar and constant droning along his spine, reminding him that doing things changes things. Lying here, though, straining his eyes to watch the fan go round, that’s nothing. That’s nothing like cooking is nothing—like chess and reading and bowling are nothing. And that changes nothing. And more nothing means more pain.
He winces, rolling over and checking the clock. 4 AM. An empty bottle of ibuprofen glows green in the numbers’ light. His own voice thumps along with his heartbeat in his ears, What if nothing helps?
What then?

Date: 2010-04-20 04:42 am (UTC)I think it might be worse for House this time around, because so much of it is not the loss of time with Wilson, but the loss of power and the ability to control his relationship. I think I like Sam, but she'll be tough for House to handle.

Personally, I can't help but think that House's leg pain is just an outward symptom of the pain he carries inside. If he were to ever deal with that his leg just might stop hurting.
